Job Title: Dairy Technician
About the Role
The company is an established dairy service provider and a local partner to a global leader in dairy innovation. They are seeking a hands-on Dairy Technician based in Underberg to service dairy farms across Southern KZN, including Kokstad, Bulwer, and Ixopo. The role focuses on maintaining and supporting advanced milking systems to ensure efficient milk production, high milk quality, and optimal herd health.
Key Responsibilities
- Equipment Installation and Maintenance: You will be responsible for the professional installation, routine servicing, and preventative maintenance of milking and dairy equipment.
- Emergency Breakdown Response: This role requires attending to critical equipment failures and emergency breakdowns, often during early morning milking times, to minimize downtime for the farmer.
- Technical Fault Diagnosis: You will utilize your expertise to diagnose complex mechanical, electrical, and electro-mechanical faults within dairy systems.
- Staff Training and Hygiene: A key part of the role involves training farm staff on the correct use of equipment and implementing hygiene practices to ensure milk safety.
- Customer Relationship Management: You will focus on building strong, long-term relationships with dairy farmers and providing basic sales assistance to help them find the right solutions for their needs.
- Operational Administration: Responsibilities include managing your own spares stock and accurately completing job cards for all service and repair tasks.
Minimum Requirements
- Red seal – Millwright or Electrician
- A valid Code B driver’s licence is essential for travel to rural farm sites.
- Proven ability to work independently and unsupervised in rural farming environments.
- Physically fit and comfortable with the demands of early morning call-outs.
- Previous experience in the dairy or agricultural industry is considered a significant advantage.
