Job Title: Installation Electrician

About the Role:

We are seeking a qualified Installation Electrician with approximately 13 years of practical industry experience and a valid 3 Phase Wiremans Licence to join a growing electrical services company specialising in inspections, compliance, fault finding, maintenance, and project-based installations across residential, commercial, and industrial environments.

While the role includes electrical inspections and installation-related activities, the primary focus is on compliance, fault identification, reporting, planning corrective actions, and team supervision rather than purely hands-on installation work.

The successful candidate should be academically and technically inclined, highly organised, and comfortable working with inspections, documentation, compliance requirements, and client communication. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an ambitious electrician looking to develop within electrical compliance, inspections, project coordination, and technical supervision.

Key Responsibilities:

Inspection & Compliance

  • Conduct detailed electrical inspections on residential, commercial, and industrial installations.
  • Identify non-compliance issues, safety hazards, workmanship concerns, and operational defects.
  • Compile comprehensive fault lists with clear descriptions and photographic evidence where required.
  • Prepare detailed corrective action reports.
  • Submit inspection findings, corrective action plans, and associated material requirements to the office for quotation preparation and pricing.
  • Assess installations against applicable standards, including SANS regulations and industry requirements.
  • Perform final inspections after remedial work has been completed.
  • Ensure installations are compliant before recommending or issuing a Certificate of Compliance (COC).

Technical & Client Advisory

  • Provide professional technical insight to clients regarding:
    • Poor design practices
    • Potential future risks
    • Capacity limitations
    • Efficiency improvements
    • Maintenance concerns
  • Assist clients in understanding repair priorities and recommended improvements.
  • Maintain a professional and solutions-driven approach when communicating with clients.
  • Provide technical recommendations where required.

Team Management & Leadership

  • Supervise and manage teams consisting of apprentices and semi-skilled workers.
  • Plan and coordinate daily work schedules and site activities.
  • Provide clear instructions and technical guidance to teams.
  • Monitor productivity and workmanship quality on-site.
  • Promote accountability, teamwork, and professional conduct.

Administration & Reporting

  • Complete inspection reports accurately and timeously.
  • Compile detailed fault reports and corrective action plans.
  • Prepare material requirement lists for quotation purposes.
  • Liaise closely with office staff to ensure technical information is accurately translated into quotations.
  • Maintain job records, compliance documentation, and site reports.
  • Ensure all paperwork related to inspections and Certificates of Compliance is completed correctly.
  • Communicate progress, delays, and technical issues effectively with management and office staff.

Health & Safety

  • Ensure compliance with occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Promote safe working practices on all sites.
  • Conduct risk assessments and identify unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure teams operate using the correct PPE, tools, and procedures.

 

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Red Seal - Electrician
  • Valid 3 Phase Wiremans Licence
  • Valid driver's licence
  • Approximately 13 years of practical electrical experience
  • Proven experience in inspections, fault finding, and compliance-related work
  • Strong understanding of SANS 10142 and applicable electrical regulations
  • Computer literate
  • Strong report-writing and administrative ability
  • Ability to supervise teams and oversee work performed under general control
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills

 

Preferred Experience:

  • Experience in residential, commercial, and industrial electrical installations
  • Experience with solar, backup power, or energy management systems advantageous
  • Previous experience issuing or managing Certificates of Compliance (COCs)
