About the Role

An established multi-franchise commercial truck dealership group is seeking a qualified Diesel Mechanic to join its workshop team in Ermelo, Mpumalanga.

The business has been operating in the commercial vehicle industry for more than 30 years and has built a strong presence across multiple locations. The group represents several recognised commercial vehicle brands and has a strong focus on both vehicle sales and aftersales support.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the servicing, maintenance, diagnostics and repair of commercial vehicles, both within the workshop and during off-site breakdowns when required.

This opportunity is open to candidates ranging from newly qualified Diesel Mechanics through to experienced artisans with up to 10 years' post-trade experience.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform scheduled servicing, maintenance and repairs on commercial vehicles.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical and vehicle-related faults.
  • Attend to workshop-based services and repairs.
  • Attend to vehicle breakdowns and off-site servicing or repairs when required.
  • Use diagnostic equipment and systems effectively to identify faults.
  • Ensure all repairs and maintenance are completed according to OEM and workshop standards.
  • Conduct inspections and ensure vehicles are safe before being released.
  • Accurately complete job cards and record all work performed.
  • Complete breakdown sheets, inspection sheets and other required workshop documentation.
  • Effectively use the company's Dealer Management System (DMS).
  • Maintain high standards of workmanship and professionalism.
  • Maintain and care for tools and workshop equipment.
  • Work effectively as part of the workshop and technical team.
  • Follow all workshop health, safety and operational procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with workshop management and other team members.

Minimum Requirements

  • Qualified Diesel Mechanic 
  • Newly qualified candidates through to candidates with approximately 10 years' post-trade experience will be considered.
  • Valid driver's licence.
  • Own reliable transport.
  • Code 14 driver's licence to operate trucks. ( can obtain within 6 months of working there)
  • Own complete basic tool set.
  • Diagnostic skills and experience using diagnostic equipment.
  • Computer literacy.
  • Ability to work with workshop systems and Dealer Management Systems.
  • Good administrative skills.
  • Ability to accurately complete job cards and technical documentation.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Pride in workmanship and a strong focus on vehicle safety.
  • Professional work ethic and sober habits.
