About the Role:
They are a leading medium-size Civil Engineering company in South Africa with over 35 years of expertise in the sector. They deliver construction projects to both the Public and Private Sectors. Their extensive project experience includes freeway construction, roadworks (upgrading gravel to surfaced roads), BRT network construction (such as the ReaVaya and A Re Yeng networks), township infrastructure development, and surface infrastructure projects in the mining industry.
The company operates an up-to-date, well-maintained Plant Department, and they are seeking a dedicated Mechanic to join their team. The primary purpose of this role is to ensure all plant equipment is repaired and maintained as required, contributing directly to their focus on quality work and ethical business principles.
Key Responsibilities:
- Preventative and Corrective Maintenance Performing necessary machine maintenance and repairs to keep equipment functional.
- Diagnostics & Repair Conducting fault finding and troubleshooting procedures on complex machinery.
- Component Overhaul Repairing, stripping, and assembling various machine components.
- Machine Rebuilding Executing full rebuilding procedures for machinery when required.
- Hydraulic System Management Handling repair and maintenance tasks specific to hydraulic systems.
- Electrical System Troubleshooting Performing electrical diagnostics and maintenance on vehicle electrical systems (e.g., fuel injection and engine timing).
- Routine Servicing Completing daily checks and service activities, including routine maintenance like changing oil and checking batteries.
- Braking and Steering System Checks Inspecting and maintaining both the brake system and the steering systems for safety and performance.
- Vehicle Handling Safely raising vehicles using jacks and two-post car hoists.
- Performance Testing Conducting test drives of repaired vehicles to ensure functionality.
- Inventory Management Identifying required spares and ordering them strictly according to established department procedure.
- Safety and Workshop Standards Performing essential housekeeping duties and executing required risk assessments.
- Reporting and Documentation Compiling detailed inspection and failure reports, daily timesheets, and maintaining comprehensive records of each repaired vehicle.
- Team Mentorship Contributing to the ongoing training and development of subordinates within the Plant Department.
- Location: Various Sites (Including Gauteng, Mpumalanga, Free State, North West, and Limpopo Provinces)
Education & Qualifications:
- Trade Certificate Diesel Mechanic
- Valid Driver’s licence
- Valid Medical certificate
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience in a relevant field.
- Demonstrated knowledge in electrical diagnostics and hydraulics.
- Ability to develop, modify, construct, and install related equipment repaired for the safety operation of all engineering equipment.
- Possession of good communication skills and good interpersonal skills.
- Must be a good driver.
