Job Description
About the Role:
The successful candidate will be based in a workshop environment responsible for the machining, fabrication, maintenance, and repair of components used in drilling and heavy-duty equipment.
This role requires a highly skilled Fitter & Turner with strong machining ability and experience working to precise tolerances. The position involves both the manufacturing of new components and the refurbishment of existing parts to support the maintenance and overhaul of specialised equipment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Machining & Fabrication: Operate lathes, milling machines, drill presses, and grinders to manufacture and modify metal components to precise specifications
- Component Refurbishment: Repair and recondition worn or damaged parts used in heavy equipment and machinery
- Assembly & Installation: Fit and assemble mechanical components and machinery according to technical drawings and specifications
- Maintenance & Repairs: Perform preventative maintenance and repairs on mechanical systems, including hydraulic and pneumatic components
- Precision Measurement & Quality Control: Use measuring instruments (micrometers, verniers, gauges) to ensure correct tolerances, clearances, and fits
- Technical Interpretation: Read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications
- Workshop Support: Assist with breakdown repairs and urgent component manufacturing to support equipment uptime
- Health & Safety Compliance: Maintain a safe and organised working environment in line with workshop standards
- Documentation & Reporting: Record work completed, measurements, and maintenance activities accurately
Requirements:
- Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal) – Fitter & Turner
- Minimum 3–5 years’ post-trade experience
- Strong experience in machining (lathe & milling essential)
- Ability to work to tight tolerances and precision measurements
- Experience in component manufacturing and refurbishment
