About this role 

This company is a global leader in professional cable management, specialising in the production of high-quality solutions such as cable ties, heat shrink tubing, and electrical installation tools. The company is seeking a skilled Maintenance Shift Technician to join its team in Johannesburg. In this role, the successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and repair of sophisticated production equipment, ensuring the companys manufacturing processes remain efficient, safe, and reliable.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preventative Maintenance: Perform planned preventative maintenance (PPM) on all injection moulding, extrusion, and auxiliary machinery to minimise operational downtime.
  • Fault Finding and Repair: Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic faults to ensure continuous and efficient production cycles.
  • Emergency Breakdown Response: Provide prompt response to equipment breakdowns and participate in a rotational standby schedule for urgent out-of-hours issues.
  • Reliability Engineering: Conduct Root Cause Analysis (RCA) on equipment failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring faults and improve reliability.
  • Compliance and Safety: Ensure all maintenance activities comply with local safety regulations, including OHSA, SANS, and ISO 9001/IATF 16949 standards.
  • Process Optimisation: Work with production teams to improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE) and participate in lean manufacturing, Kaizen, and 6S initiatives.
  • Technical Documentation: Maintain accurate digital records of all work performed using a Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) for full traceability.
  • Staff Mentorship: Provide training and guidance to junior maintenance staff and production operators regarding basic machine maintenance procedures.

Requirements

  • Qualified Artisan must be a trade-tested Millwright, Electrician, or Fitter & Turner, or hold a National Diploma in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
  • A minimum of 35 years of experience in maintaining injection moulding and extrusion machinery within an automotive or FMCG environment.
  • Proven expertise in hydraulics, pneumatics, motors, and automation, including PLC and robotic programming concepts.
  • Ability to interpret complex technical drawings, electrical schematics, and mechanical blueprints.
  • Willingness to work shifts and standby duty, supported by a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.
