About the Role
A small, family-owned engineering firm specializing in the design, manufacture, supply, and maintenance of automated packing, conveying, palletising equipment, and bucket elevators is seeking a qualified electrician or junior industrial automation technician. This role offers newly qualified artisans comprehensive hands-on exposure across the entire machine-building life cycle, from workshop assembly and electrical panel construction to on-site commissioning and fault finding. You will work directly with specialized equipment operating across key sectors, including the cement, chemical, tile adhesive, and consumer goods industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Automated Machine Building: Assist with constructing automated packaging, conveying, and palletising machinery from scratch, gaining exposure to total system assembly.
- Electrical Assembly & Panel Wiring: Build electrical panels, execute machine wiring, and read and interpret electrical and mechanical drawings.
- Site Assembly & Installation: Travel to customer sites across South Africa and neighbouring countries to assist with machine installation and site assembly.
- Equipment Commissioning: Participate in the setup, testing, and commissioning of PLC-controlled automated machinery and industrial equipment.
- Diagnostic Fault Finding: Perform mechanical and electrical fault finding across systems such as electric motors, gearboxes, sensors, pneumatics, load cells, and variable frequency drives (VFDs).
- Preventative & Breakdown Maintenance: Execute routine maintenance and breakdown repairs on client equipment using diagnostic tools to ensure operations run smoothly.
- Customer Support & Reporting: Complete detailed service reports, assist with managing spare parts, and provide professional technical support to clients.
- Task Ownership & Safety: Take initiative on assigned projects, work independently where appropriate, and maintain high standards of safety in industrial environments.
Requirements
- Red Seal Electrician or Fitter & Turner.
- Newly qualified artisan with a passion for machine building, industrial automation, and technical skill development.
- Strong technical aptitude with the ability to read electrical and mechanical schematics.
- Practical problem-solving capabilities and the ability to work without constant supervision.
- Comfort working at heights and in active industrial plant environments.
- Willingness to travel extensively and stay away from home when required for customer projects.
- Valid driver’s licence preferred.

- Regular working hours from Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:30.
