Job Description

About the Role:

This organization is a precision engineering and manufacturing business, operating a CNC workshop equipped with milling and turning machines, with plans to introduce multi-axis machining capability. The organization is looking for a Workshop Manager to oversee daily operations of the CNC workshop, including programming, setting, and running CNC machines, developing custom work-holding designs using Autodesk Fusion, and managing a team of operators and setters. The role also acts as the key point of contact for quality, safety, and timekeeping, helping to ensure efficient production workflows, cost control, and well-maintained tool and consumable inventories.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and Engineering: Develop and optimize fixturing and production-ready programs using Autodesk Fusion, including 3D models and CAM toolpaths.
  • Machine Operation and Production: Set up, calibrate, and operate CNC milling and turning machines, programming for custom component runs and preparing for future multi-axis capability.
  • Team Leadership: Supervise and mentor CNC operators and setters, assigning work schedules and facilitating training on new processes and safety protocols.
  • Quality and Compliance: Implement quality control measures, conduct inspections, and ensure compliance with ISO standards and safety regulations.
  • Cost and Materials Management: Support job costing and quotations and manage tooling and consumable inventory to avoid production downtime.
  • Safety and Housekeeping: Enforce safety practices, maintain a clean workshop environment, and conduct regular safety audits and risk assessments.
  • Reporting: Monitor machine utilization and production metrics and prepare regular production reports.

Requirements:

  • Red Seal: Toolmaker or Fitter and Turner.
  • Diploma or degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum 5 years in a CNC machining environment, including at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Hands-on experience with Autodesk Fusion for CAD/CAM and demonstrated expertise on CNC mills and lathes; familiarity with multi-axis machining is an advantage.
  • Strong understanding of G-code, tooling selection, feeds, and speeds, along with knowledge of quality inspection tools such as callipers, micrometres, and CMMs.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills, with close attention to detail.
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and comfortable working under pressure in a hands-on, collaborative environment.
